Ray's Spellmonger Legacy and Secrets Series Review

There are hints of things you may consider spoilers. Reader beware.
Author: Terry Mancour & Emily Burch Harris
Narrator: Fiona Hardingham

Book 1 - Shadowplay Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets, Book 1

Audiobook play time: 11 hours 25 minutes

Shadowplay (Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets #1)Shadowplay by Terry Mancour
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Some complained about the narrator pronouncing a few things differently than the main story. There were only a few instances--easily overlooked. Overall, I thought the narrator did a good job giving each character their own voice. I really appreciate it when narrators do that. The story had good pacing. I really liked the main character of this story. I looked forward to reading her story after meeting her in the Spellmonger series (book 9). Terry and Emily do not disappoint in this book. I like that they put more detail to some events we already know from the Spellmonger series. I really appreciate getting to know this character and her family better. It's a great start to the trilogy.

Book 2 - Shadowheist Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets, Book 2

Audiobook play time: 16 hours 40 minutes

Shadowheist (Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets #2)Shadowheist by Terry Mancour
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Terry Mancour and Emily Burch Harris collaborate on a good young adult fantasy story here. I appreciated the setting and the struggles. Fiona Hardingham does her normal great job as narrator. Because the word "magocracy" comes up a number of times in this book and Fiona's pronunciation differs from the Spellmonger main series read by John Lee, it did distract me. Speaking of the main Spellmonger series, you do not need to have knowledge of it to enjoy this series; but it does help. I really liked how they developed the aliases the characters play. I like that the characters don't solve all their problems with magic. I'm hoping they will develop their magical abilities more in the next story. The character's magical development seems lacking in comparison to their training in swords and academics "the three Rs". Overall, a good read.

Book 3 - Shadowblade Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets, Book 3

Audiobook play time: 20 hours 13 minutes

Shadowblade (Spellmonger: Legacy and Secrets Book 3)Shadowblade by Terry Mancour
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think Terry Mancour and Emily Burch Harris collaborated on a good story. I thought characters developed a bit more in this installment than the last. Fiona Hardingham did a splendid job as the narrator. Again, I really appreciated her ability to give each character their own voice--especially when the character attempts to become someone else (which the book describes as an "alias"). This is quality young adult fantasy. It has a likeable and strong female lead. While the story benefits from knowledge of the Spellmonger series with Minalan, the Spellmonger, it does not require it. Based on the ending, I could see a book four--or, not. The ending definitely leads into and leaves you hanging about what happens in book nine of the Spellmonger series. So, I could see them doing a different perspective book four in the Legacy and Secrets based on the Spellmonger book nine story or just leaving it up to the reader to read the Spellmonger series. I would love a book four in this series!
